Without self-confidence, there is no hope.

There was a time in my life where I thought I wasn't good enough or worth enough to do anything worthwhile. All I did was exist, but never living with no hope for anything worthwhile. Then one day it hit me like a ton of bricks: I am in a prison, and I have the keys to let myself out. I was in a prison of my own making, everything from my decision making to my few actions I actually did, I locked myself there.
So, what do you do to unlock the door to this prison you have made for yourself and start living your new life? First thing to remember is you are worth of happiness and success. This is non-negotiable. There is no doubt in my mind you are worthy, so there shouldn't be any doubt in your mind as well.
How do you gain self-confidence?
1) Recognize there are things you are good at.
We're all good at something whether it is cooking, singing, doing puzzles, or just being a friend. There is something you are good at, all you need to do is figure that out.
2) Build positive relationships.
Somewhere out there is someone, whether a significant other, family member, or someone at work who sees something in you that will help you in getting better at what you are working on accomplishing.
3) Be kind to yourself.
Beating yourself up after something doesn't work out right is not productive and it will serve to send you back to your prison. This is the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish: getting out of your prison.
4) Learn to be assertive
Learning to be the right type of assertive is going to be somewhat challenging. You don't want to be overbearing, but at the same time you don't want to get lost in the background noise.
5) Start saying "no"
Setting boundaries without offending everyone will not happen. There are some people who were used to you not having boundaries before, and now you are telling someone "no" after they've gotten comfortable with what you used to let them do. Setting good healthy boundaries will start giving you more confidence in what you are trying to accomplish.
6) Give yourself a challenge
Challenging yourself every day to do something that pushes your comfort zone. It doesn't have to be a big challenge, and if it is, make sure you have someone there guiding you in the endeavor.
After all of these thigs are considered, there is a second step: GO DO SOMETHING!!
All this confidence sitting around and you aren't doing anything about it!?!? The biggest objection I get is "what if I fail?" Thomas Edison was asked once why he kept trying after failing 2,000 times. He replied "I didn't fail 2,000 times, I discovered 2,000 ways to not make a light bulb. I only need one success to make it work" This has served as an inspiration to me and I use it all the time with my clients.
