Comfort Zone and How it is Holding You Back

How does your comfort zone keep you from attaining greatness in your life? Albert Einstein is quoted as saying “expecting a different result after doing the same thing over and over is the truest form of insanity”. So that means you will get nowhere in life doing the same thing over and over again.

I can think of a lot of times in my life where I was expecting things to change but they never did. And it was all because of my unwillingness to change what I was doing. I would always ask myself “why things aren’t changing for the better?”. I would expect things to change while not doing anything substantive to affect the change I wanted. And it was because I was the most comfortable where I was, it was just not moving me forward. I knew what to expect, and how to react to it, but never doing anything challenging or even different to affect a change in my life.

So how do we get out of this pattern of inactivity? What changes do we need to make in order to change the path of our lives?

First, look at the people who you are around on a regular basis. Are they also waiting for things to change? Or are they doing things to affect the change they want in their lives? This is a powerful motivator and support vessel to affect change in your life. The support from your peers and friends can help you monumentally when it comes to improving your life.

Second, look at the change you want to make. Determine the steps needed to be taken in order to start this change. Where to start is just the beginning in determining what the correct path you need to take is.

Third, remember that substantive change is not a sprint, it is a marathon. It will take time and there will be setbacks, but in the end worthwhile change is worth the occasional bumps and bruises you get.

Fourth, give yourself GRACE! There will be times it will be tiring and you will sometimes stumble in your new path. It’s OK, and you will recover from it. Just remember to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep working on it. There will be days where it will not seem like you made progress. Here's a big secret: These are the times where you’ve made the MOST progress! It just started to come so naturally that you no longer have to think about it!

You will find that after a time you have changed the path of your life, and always remember in the end you are the key to unlocking your own prison cell and living your new life!

This is a new thought process, and it can be a scary one. The whole reason it is called the Comfort Zone is because it is what we are used to and we know what to expect in that situation. And that is what is holding you back from attaining the great life you dream of.

So get out there, find something to try, and go accomplish your goals!!!
