Where is Your Self-Esteem?

ree

Why are you still thinking you are not good enough? Aren’t my previous blogs and videos clear enough to get you motivated and confident enough to start your new life? A lot of self-esteem issues come down to what we have been told in our past: either it’s a waste of time or we aren’t good enough to accomplish something we had our heart on for a long time. Our dreams and ambitions were absolutely crushed when we heard things like that.

Now self- esteem is the foundation upon which our lives are built. This is why so much of our lack of self-esteem stems from what we’ve been told and shown in the past. It shapes the way we perceive ourselves and the world around us, and we can have a profound impact on our mental and physical health, relationships, and overall well being. Unfortunately, many people struggle with low self-esteem, which can be a major obstacle to achieving their goals and living a full life.

So what is the best way to get out of this rut and start on the path for better self-esteem? First, look at my previous blogs about self-confidence and self-motivation. These will get you moving in the right direction. Next, start limiting your time with people who are dragging you down. You are looking to improve YOUR self-esteem, not someone else's. After you get your on the right trajectory you can bring people up with you, but not until you have yourself started first.

Let’s look at some of the things to do to get your esteem going in the right direction:

  • Identify your strengths. Some people can build a house with their own 2 hands. Others can take apart a computer system and repair any piece in it. The point is everyone is good at something. Make a list of all the things you are good at, from talents to vocational skills to hobbies. All of these will come together later in the blog.

  • Challenge your negative self-talk. Negative self-talk is a very common obstacle to self-esteem. We all have an inner critic that tells us we are not good enough, smart enough, or capable enough. The ke is to challenge these negative thoughts and replace them with supportive ones. For example, if you catch yourself thinking “i’m such a failure”, try reframing it as “ok, there was a mistake made, but I am no worse off than I was, so I’m good there”. This gives you license to not only give yourself grace but also to try again, just changing one aspect of it and seeing how that works.

  • Setting achievable goals. Quit trying to do so much at once! You can’t get everything done at once, especially if there are multiple steps in the process. Give yourself time to get things done. The dishes are usually a quick chore, but that stuck on chili is going to need to soak! So get the rest of the dishes done and let the pot soak until it’s ready to be washed. Also don’t set big goals at once. Set small ones, this way you will not only have a sense of accomplishment but also a boost of confidence. This will also help you to set realistic expectations for yourself.

  • Practice self-care. Taking care of yourself is essential for building self-esteem. If you feel like you smell like a viking, your body posture and your hesitation to be around people will show. If you have been putting off going to the gym because you are afraid of being judged, WHO CARES?! You are there for you and whatever goals you have, not anyone else’s. When you prioritize self-care, you send a message to yourself that you’re worthy of love and attention. This can also help you feel more energized and ready to tackle any challenges that come your way.

In conclusion, building self-esteem is a lifelong journey that requires patience, self-compassion, and a commitment to self-improvement. By practicing self-confidence and self-motivation through these strategies, you can gradually develop a healthier self-esteem and live a more fulfilling life. Remember, building self-esteem takes time and effort, but with practice and persistence, it’s possible to achieve a strong and positive sense of self-worth.
